Planting Malaysia’s National Flower in Celebration of Merdeka Day
Butterworth, Penang – September 2, 2024: In celebration of Malaysia’s 67th Merdeka Day, OPERION, along with co-sponsor Mr. Lee Yueh Sing, participated in a meaningful event at SJK(C) Li Hwa, where 30 hibiscus trees, the national flower, were planted. This event, organized by the school’s alumni association, symbolized Malaysia’s unity, resilience, and continued growth.
Mr. Lukas Tan, OPERION’s CEO and an alumnus of SJK(C) Li Hwa, shared his pride in being part of the event: “Planting the national flower at the school where I began my education is deeply meaningful and reminds us of all of the importance of community.”
The event brought together alumni, school officials, and community members, celebrating both Malaysia’s independence and the spirit of cooperation. Mr. Christopher, President of the Alumni Association, extended his appreciation to OPERION and Mr. Lee Yueh Sing, as well as other partners, for their contributions to the event’s success. This event contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 13: Climate Action, which emphasizes the need to protect the planet through initiatives that combat climate change and its impacts; and SDG 15: Life on Land, which promotes the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems and highlights the importance of tree planting for biodiversity and environmental conservation.
